New Delhi: Noting that the proposed port at Poshitra in Jamnagar would destroy crucial marine bio-diversity in the Gulf of Kutch, the Union Environment Ministry has asked the private developer to look for another site to protect the precious aquatic life.
The planned port is near the intermediate port of Okha and at the entrance of the Gulf of Kutch. Gujarat Positra Port Infrastructure, promoted by Sea King Infrastructure Ltd, the pioneers in core infrastructure development in India, was supposed to develop the port along with a private player. The company had earlier developed the Pipavav port, railway lines, integrated modern shipyards, roads and LNG projects. [05/08/09]
