Another slow day for the Atlantic Panamax sector, with rates still
under pressure despite the lack of spot tonnage. Sources said that
owners were unable to take advantage of this as there was insufficient
new business to inspire rate increases. From the Pacific, sources
said there was some additional demand for coal cargoes, but just too
much tonnage available in north China to see rates move back up. The
Baltic Panamax index fell 53 to 2325.
In the Atlantic, the 1995-built 73,222 dwt Eleranta reportedly fixed
to an undisclosed charterer with September 01-05 delivery Orinoco for
a trip with redelivery in the East at $31,000 daily plus a ballast
bonus of $525,000.
The 1994-built 70,171 dwt Full Strong has gone to an unnamed charterer
with August 31 deivery Brazil for a trip with redelivery in the East
at $25,400 daily plus a ballast bonus of $575,000.
Transgrain was linked with the 1987-built 67,395 dwt Theoforos I for
spot delivery Gibraltar on a trip via the Continent and Iran with
redelivery passing Muscat outbound at $25,000 daily.
An unnamed charterer reportedly fixed on subjects the 1998-built
70,592 dwt Obelix Buker with August 16 delivery Ghent for a trip via
the Baltic with redelivery UK-Continent at $24,000 daily.
The 2001-built 72,561 dwt Cosbulk-relet Marbella has gone to
Oldendorff with August 18-20 delivery Ghent for a trip with 1-2 laden
legs and redelivery Gibraltar/Skaw opt Skaw-Cape Passero at $22,000
daily or opt $24,000 daily.
Cargill was the charterer of the 2006-built 76,200 dwt Torm Skagen
with August 20-25 delivery for a trip with redelivery Skaw-Cape
Passero at $15,000 daily plus a ballast bonus of $300,000.
Pacific Panamax business saw the 2006-built 76,620 dwt Navios Star fix
to Oldendorff with prompt delivery Hong Kong in d/c for a trip via
Indonesia and redelivery Singapore/Japan at $18,750 daily.
U-Ming proved to be the charterer of the 2007-built 86,949 dwt Sophia
with August 13-15 delivery passing Taiwan on a trip via Indonesia with
redelivery Taiwan at $18,500 daily.
Daeyang has taken the 1993-built 79,000 dwt Maud with August 11-15
delivery Taiwan for a trip via Indonesia and redelivery Taiwan at
$16,750 daily.
The 1981-built 65,960 dwt Harmony Falcon has gone to an unnamed
charterer with August 18-20 delivery Lianyungang for a trip via north
China with redelivery South Korea at $13,500 daily.
Pacific period business heard that Swiss Marine fixed the 2001-built
74,427 dwt Alpha Afovos with August 13-15 delivery Inchon for 4-6
months trading and redelivery worldwide at $20,000 daily.
The charterer also took the 2002-built 72,917 dwt Silver One with
August 18 delivery Ulsan for a balance of period through
February/March 2010 at $18,000 daily.
CAPESIZE
========
Midweek provided a bit of a turn-around for the Capesize sector, with
sources reporting additional activity and some improvement in rates -
although charterers appeared willing to wait before fixing and keep a
lid on rates. The Baltic Capesize index managed to recover 41 and end
at 4333.
Capesize voyage business saw the 1993-built 147,048 dwt Road Runner
fix on subjects to Kleimar with September 01-15 loading 140,000 tons
10% ore from Ponta da Madeira to Dalian at an improved $34.00.
The 2009-built Navios Pollux fixed to Pacific Bulk Shipping recently
for August 26-30 loading 160,000 tons 10% ore from Itaquai to Qingdao
at $32.50.
Kumba was linked with a Cosco H.K. TBN for September 01-10 loading
160,000 tons 10% ore from Saldanha Bay to Qingdao at $22.50.
Out of the Pacific, the 2002-built 169,200 dwt Paschalis D has gone to
Rio Tinto Shipping with August 19-21 delivery Qingdao in d/c for a
trip via west Australia with redelivery Qingdao at $40,000 daily.
For period business, the 2003-built 175,882 dwt Essent fixed to
Oldendorff with spot delivery Dalian for balance of period of about
3-4 months trading, with redelivery worldwide at a stronger $42,500
daily.
HANDY/SUPRAMAX
==============
Midweek proved no relief to the Handy sector, with rates in the
Atlantic trending sideways on a lack of new business. Some fixing and
failing was noted. Pacific Handy business was much more active today,
with some firmer numbers reported. The Baltic Supramax index dropped
36 to 1700, while the Handysize index moved up 2 to 823.
Atlantic Handy business included reports that the 1996-built 45,681
dwt Dubai Faith has fixed to Cargill with August 18-23 delivery
Paranagua for a trip with redelivery PMO/Japan at $22,000 daily plus a
ballast bonus of $300,000.
Armada has the 2009-built 54,768 dwt Jin Shun with August 22-25
delivery aps north coast South America for a trip with redelivery
Brazil at $23,000 daily.
The 2002-built 28,425 dwt Kingfisher D fixed and failed to an unnamed
charterer with August 15-17 delivery Lagos for a trip via west Africa
and redelivery in the Black Sea at $11,250 daily.
For Pacific Handy business, the 2004-built 52,000 dwt Kang Yao has
fixed to Noble with August 15-24 delivery Haldia for a trip with
redelivery India at a better $26,500 daily.
The 2004-built 55,604 dwt Placid Sea went to a Chinese charterer with
August 15-20 delivery Paradip for a trip with redelivery China at
$23,500 daily.
Shadab has taken the 2005-built 55,566 dwt Moondance 2 with spot
delivery Karachi in d/c for a trip via South Africa and redelivery
Pakistan at $16,250 daily.
The 2008-built 42,000 dwt Hemus was said fixed to an undisclosed
charterer with August 20-30 delivery Vizakhapatnam for a trip with
redelivery China at $15,500 daily.
The 2008-built 55,455 dwt Anna-Dorothea reportedly fixed to an unnamed
charterer with August 14-17 delivery Lanshan for a trip via southeast
Asia and redelivery Spore-Japan at $14,500 daily.
The charterer of the 1995-built 46,641 dwt Progress 2 was not
disclosed, but reportedly took the vessel with spot delivery Thailand
for a trip via southeast Asia and redelivery Pakistan at $14,000
daily.
In a correction to an earlier report, the 1994-built 44,820 dwt New
Fortune has gone to Oldendorff with August 14-16 delivery Nigeria for
a trip via West Africa with redelivery Spore-Japan at $24,750 daily.
In voyage business, Arcelor Mittal took the 2007-built Navios Ulysses
with August 15-20 loading 50,000 tons 10% coal from Maracaibo to Ghent
at $20.25.
Period business heard that the 1996-built 28,581 dwt Super Challenge
fixed with Oldendorff for August 16-20 delivery Saganoseki in d/c for
2-4 months trading with redelivery in the Far East at $12,000 daily.
