WISTA sets sail in Hong Kong
Hong Kong: The Women's International Shipping & Trading Association (WISTA) has announced it has established a branch in Hong Kong.
An inaugural ceremony was held in Causeway Bay on July 8, 2009, which was attended by a distinguished array of members and guests from the maritime and trading industries in Hong Kong.
“With WISTA, we now have a platform for communication and experience sharing” said Ms Sabrina Chao (pictured), Honorary President of WISTA and Vice Chairman of Wah Kwong Maritime Transport Holdings. “It is tough to be in the minority. There are many challenges facing women in management positions across many different industries, but it is especially difficult in our sector, which for centuries, have been dominated by male.”
The inaugural ceremony was preceded by a seminar on "Piracy - in the context of insurances with particular emphasis on General Average". This seminar was given by Benson Chiu, General Manager of Richards Hogg Lindley in Hong Kong.
WISTA is an international organization for women involved in the maritime transportation business and related trades worldwide. With more than 1000 members in 25 countries around the world, the organization aims to be a major player in attracting more women to the shipping industry and in supporting women in management positions in the maritime industry.
Honorary presidents of WISTA in Hong Kong also include Ms Pansy Ho and Ms Miriam Lau, GBS, JP. Sponsors include a wide range of individuals and corporates from leading names in various sectors related to the maritime industry. [15/07/09]
