PT SMOE Indonesia consortium bags S$230m offshore contract

Singapore: A consortium consisting of the fully-owned Indonesian business unit of Sembcorp Marine subsidiary SMOE Pte and PT Saipem Indonesia has secured a contract worth US$430m from Premier Oil Natuna Sea B.V, for the engineering and construction of a Central Processing Platform, a Wellhead Platform and a 16 inch diameter by 3 km export subsea gas pipeline, to be installed in about 80 meters water depth in the Gajah Baru Field, offshore Indonesia.
The subsea pipeline, to be linked to the existing export trunkline, will carry 140 million cubic feet of gas to Sembgas in Singapore. First gas is expected in October 2011.
PT SMOE Indonesia’s portion of the contract, worth about S$230 million, entails part procurement, construction engineering, construction, hook-up and commissioning of the two platforms, while PT Saipem Indonesia’s scope of work covers engineering design, procurement, transportation and installation of the platforms and the subsea pipeline.
Facilities on the Central Processing Platform, which has a topside weight of about 8,200 tons and a jacket weight of about 4,700 tons, will include compression, separation, glycol regeneration, gas metering, mechanical refrigeration, utilities and living quarters for 60 men.
The Wellhead Platform has an estimated topside weight of about 900 tons and a jacket weight of about 1,400 tons. Construction is scheduled to commence in August 2009 with offshore completion in October 2011.  
Chew Sang Mon, SMOE’s senior gm for commercial and business development said “The respective areas of expertise and capabilities of SMOE and Saipem complement well in this major Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Transportation, Installation, Hook-up and Commissioning contract. Both companies have joined forces in seven such contracts over the last 12 years and have since developed a strong and close business relationship.”   
“PT SMOE yard on Batam Island has an area of 30 hectares with an additional 22.3 hectares currently under its Phase 4 expansion program. The Phase 3 expansion was officially opened on November 14 th, 2008 by Bapak Drs. H. Ismeth Abdullah, Governor of the Kepulauan Riau Province.  Facilities in Phase 3 include 20,460m 2 covered workshops, auto-blasting & painting workshops and a reinforced 275 meters quay that can accommodate Jackets of up to 15,000 tons and Decks of up to 10,000 tons, a 310 meters Skidway and a well-equipped Medical Centre.”   [11/05/09]
