The state-owned Port of Tallinn has found several potential partners for the planned extension of the container terminal at Estonia`s main merchant port of Muuga and aims to secure a binding agreement with the future operator of the facility by the first quarter of 2010, Baltic Business News reported. The company published an announcement to find an operator in the European public announcements system and several potential strategic partners showed interest, CEO Ain Kaljurand said.
The Port of Tallinn has 27 hectares of additional terminal area with 400 meters of wharves under construction in the eastern part of Muuga Port. The work is planned to be finished in about a year`s time.
The company continues negotiations over the container terminal with the Chinese port of Ningbo and has also received an offer from the firm operating at Muuga at present.
According to Kaljurand, the goal of the Port of Tallinn is to pick the partner that makes the best offer for operating the terminal.
