TNT Dry Freight Review - December 18, 2008


PANAMAX
=======
Panamax business faded as the day progressed, with many expecting next
week to
be "pretty much a wipe" with office closures starting Tuesday
afternoon, if not
earlier.  Pacific business struggled into the close, with owners
anxious to find
cover before the holidays and rates easing again.  The Baltic Panamax
index
jumped another 32 today to close the week at 575.
Brade Carriers was said to be the charterer of the 2007-built 82,792
dwt
Deiulemar-relet Prem Veena with prompt delivery Hunterston for a trip
via
Orinoco and redelivery China at $10,000 daily.
An unnamed charterer reportedly fixed the 1999-built 75,522 dwt
Ellivita with
mid-January delivery Cape Passero for 2 year's trading at $13,500
daily, plus an
option for a 3rd year at $17,000 daily.
The 2002-built 73,810 dwt Marigo P reportedly fixed to Cargill with
January
04-08 delivery Santos for a trip with redelivery Singapore-Japan range
at $7,250
daily plus a ballast bonus of $220,000.
Sources reported that the 1981-built 64,911 dwt Natalie has gone to an
unnamed
charterer with December 22-26 delivery aps Casablanca for a trip with
redelivery
India at $5,000 daily.
The 1995-built 75,473 dwt Richmond has gone to United with December
27-30
delivery Gijon for a trip via the U.S. east coast and redelivery Praia
Mole/Santos range at $3,750 daily.
Louis Dreyfus has the 2006-built 82,295 dwt Iron Vassilis on subjects
with
December 24-28 loading 70,000 tons 10% coal from Norfolk-Mobile range
to
Terneuzen-Ghent range at $9.50.
>From the Pacific, Noble was linked with the 1995-built 69,930 dwt Feng
Shan Hai
with spot delivery Japan for a trip via east coast Australia and
redelivery
Malaysia at $5,750 daily.  Earlier reports had mentioned Oldendorff in
connection with the ship.
Louis Dreyfus reportedly took the 2007-built 75,500 dwt Coral Garnet
with
December 28-January 02 delivery Far East for a trip via NoPac and
redelivery in
the East at $3,200 daily.
Cetragpa reportedly took a Daiichi TBN with January 02-09 loading
70,000 tons
10% coal from IBT to Mauban at $3.00.
CAPESIZE
========
It was a very quiet close to the week for the Capesize sector, with
rates off
last dones as players began to pack up their offices for the holidays
next week.
In Atlantic voyage business, trips out are now said to be seeing
numbers in the
low-$9.00 range, off from $10.00-$10.10 yesterday.  A balance of
period of about
1-years trading was said done at $20,000 daily.  There was little
concluded
business reported from the Pacific today, but here too rates are said
to be
under pressure.  The Baltic Capesize index lost 53 to 1423.

Bottiglieri-relet
Leonidas Warrior with January 01-10 loading 170,000 tons 10% ore from
Port
Hedland to Qingdao at $5.20.
Atlantic period business heard that the 2005-built 170,012 dwt Cape
Pioneer has
fixed to Cosbulk with end-Dec/Jan 10 delivery Hunterston for a balance
of period
of about 10-12 months trading and redelivery worldwide at $20,000
daily.
In the Pacific, Kepco has an HMM TBN with January 09-19 loading
125,000 tons 10%
coal from Newcastle to Dangjin at $6.98.
HANDY/SUPRAMAX

It was a slow slide into the weekend, for the Atlantic Handy sector,
with rates
said to be struggling to hold at last dones.  There was very little
fresh
inquiry reported, and concluded business was also very scarce.
Trans-Atlantic
runs seemed to set around $6,000 daily.  In the Pacific, the Indian
Ocean and
Far East business at least managed to hold steady.  The Baltic
Supramax index
fell 10 to 454, while the Handysize index was down 5 at 292.
The 1997-built 45,584 dwt Aristea M has fixed to Cargill with December
22-27
delivery Santos for a trip with redelivery Mediterranean-Black Sea
range at
$8,250 daily, with optional redelivery Singapore-Japan range at $9,250
daily or
optionally Aden-Colombo range at $9,500 daily.
The 1996-built 45,178 dwt Nan Hai was said fixed to an undisclosed
charterer
with December 20-25 delivery Houston for a trip with redelivery east
coast South
America at $6,000 daily.
In voyage business, Cargill took the 1985-built Spar Jade with January
05-15
loading 25,000 tons 10% maize from Paranagua to Casablanca at $16.00.
Pacific Handy business included word that Medchart agreed $10,500
daily for the
2005-built 53,806 dwt Annita with December 20-22 delivery Magdalla for
a trip
via west coast India and redelivery China.
The 1995-built 45,694 dwt Ayse Aksoy went to Sunrise with end-December
delivery
Mawan for a trip via Vietnam and redelivery Singapore at $4,000 daily.
BCM has a Daiichi TBN with end-December loading 54,000 tons 10% coal
from
Newcastle to Mailiao at $8.25.
