TNT Dry Freight Review - March 09, 2009

PANAMAX

Panamax business got off to a slow start this week, but sources said rates were

firm in both basins.  In the East, the number of ships which have/are ballasting

to the Atlantic has helped support the market and increasing activity has also

seen numbers rise.  The Baltic Panamax index moved up 86 to 2316.

In the Atlantic, the 1977-built 77,958 dwt Angelic Protector went to an

undisclosed charterer with March 15-20 delivery Piraeus for a trip via the Black

Sea and redelivery China at $27,500 daily.

Agroship was linked with the 2004-built 77,684 dwt TMT-relet Giuseppe Rizzo with

March 12-18 delivery Amsterdam for a trip via the Baltic and redelivery India

via the Cape of Good Hope at $33,500 daily - the vessel will not be breaching IWL

In voyage business, the 2007-built 92,474 dwt Rizzo-Bottiglieri-De Carlini-relet

Prigipos with March 22-31 loading 70,000 tons 10% coal from Prodeco to La Spezia

at $19.50.

For Atlantic period business, an unnamed charterer fixed the 2007-built 75,510

dwt Imperial with February 28th delivery retro-Richards Bay for 4-6 months

trading and redelivery worldwide at $16,000 daily.

For Pacific Panamax business, the 2005-built 76,631 dwt Ariana has gone to Noble

with March 03 delivery retro-Singapore for a trip via east coast South America

and redelivery China at $18,500 daily.

The 2006-built 77,171 dwt Torm Skagen has fixed on subjects to an unnamed

charterer with March 11-13 delivery Samcheonpo for a trip via Australia and

redelivery in the Far East at $18,500 daily.

BHP Billiton was linked with the 2001-built 74,665 dwt Bunge-relet Altair with

March 12-14 delivery Kaohsiung for a trip via Hay Point and redelivery China at

about $17,250 daily.

The charterer was also said to have taken the 2006--built 76,627 dwt Coral

Sapphire with prompt delivery Tachibana for a trip via Australia with redelivery

China at $14,750 daily.

It emerged that Sanko was the charterer of the 2001-built 75,211 dwt

Hanjin-relet Oceanis, fixing the vessel last week for March 10-15 delivery

Rizhao for a trip via west coast Mexico and redelivery Taiwan at $16,500 daily.

Armada was the charterer of the 2001-built 76,300 dwt Pontevremon with March

06-08 delivery Dangjin for a trip via Indonesia with redelivery India at $15,000

daily.

Norden reportedly fixed the 2001-built 72,562 dwt Banastar with March 14-16

delivery Gove for a trip with redelivery in the East at $13,500 daily plus an

undisclosed ballast bonus.

The 1989-built 64,255 dwt Amalia Del Bene will earn $10,500 daily from Sinotrans

for prompt delivery Kwangyang for a trip via NoPac and redelivery China at

$10,500 daily.

Pacific period business heard that the 1996-built 75,365 dwt Grand China

Shipping-relet Ever Mighty has gone to Eastern Ocean with March 10-12 delivery

Zhoushan for 4-6 months trading with redelivery worldwide at $17,500 daily.

CAPESIZE

Sources said Capesize business got off to a decent start today, with more

activity noted.  Rio Tinto was said to be very active today, but details have

yet to emerge.  Rates held steady, rather than making gains in the Atlantic,

while Pacific business was still finding it hard to improve on last dones.  The

Baltic Capesize index inched down 8 to 2831.

From the Atlantic, the 1991-built 150,940 dwt Star Ypsilon has fixed to Noble

with March 20-29 loading 140,000 tons 10% ore from Ponta da Madeira to Qingdao

at $21.90.

Vale has the 2004-built Cape Apricot with March 20-30 loading 170,000 tons 10%

ore from Tubarao to Qingdao at $21.00.

In the Pacific, BHP Billiton has the 1996-built 161,059 dwt Anangel Legend with

March 21-23 delivery aps Whyalla for a trip with redelivery Singapore-Japan

range at $23,500 daily plus a ballast bonus of over $600,000.

In voyage business, BHP Billiton fixed the 2001-built SA Altius with March

25-April 05 loading 160,000 tons 10% ore from  Port Hedland to Qingdao at $7.85.

It emerged that the 1985-built 198,906 dwt Ocean Champion fixed to Noble late

last week with March 12-20 loading 180,000 tons 10% ore from Dampier to Qingdao

at $6.00.

HANDY/SUPRAMAX

Although there was limited activity reported for the Handy sector today, rates

in the Atlantic held strong for period fixtures and steady on trip business.

The Pacific basin was exceedingly quiet and while there was talk of some

business done, rates as discussed were low and details scarce.  The Baltic

Supramax index gained 25 to 1713, while the Handysize index was up 24 at 728.

For Atlantic period business, Deiulemar has taken the 2007-built 55,400 dwt Jin

Yuan with spot delivery in the US Gulf for 1-years trading and redelivery

worldwide at a firm $18,250 daily.

The 2005-built 52,346 dwt Courageous fixed to TPC with March 22-25 delivery

Ravenna for 12-months trading with redelivery worldwide at $18000 daily.

The 1985-built 42,842 dwt Drake went to an unnamed charterer with spot delivery

Durban for 3-5 months trading and redelivery in the Atlantic at $16,000 daily.
